Exploring New And Different Creative Teaching Ideas

By George Ross

When it comes to teaching, some teachers prefer to teach with old school methods. Whereas, there are others whom are happy to provide an online reading list, provide assignments and test students on a regular basis. While students can often learn with either method, teachers whom use creative teaching ideas in the classroom are often going to relate better with students.

Teachers who need help coming up with these ideas may want to peruse a number of teaching related websites. In one case, the website TeachThought offers over one hundred different suggestions which are aimed at students at different age and grade levels. As such, it is important to use ideas which are age appropriate and do not offend parents or students.

Some of the most common and popular of these alternative forms of teaching include embracing weirdness, owning ideas, carrying a notebook and keeping a sharp and clear mind. Whereas, brainstorming as a group and encouraging students to read and learn both in and outside the classroom can often have dramatic effects when it comes to learning about independent study.

While less popular than others, other ideas include using websites such as Pinterest and Instagram, talking to other educators and sharing a creative spirit with students. For, when students can work together with others in the classroom, doing so can often help form bonds and friendships with others. In addition, the process allows an opportunity in which educators can teach about the importance of honoring difference and diversity.

By using these techniques, students are taught social skills, several of which have fallen by the wayside with the advent of home-schooling and the internet. In addition, it becomes easier to recognize differences and honor diversity in the classroom. As a result, students and teachers often have a more successful time when it comes to completing the required coursework for a specified course.

When considering these alternative lesson plans, it is clear the intent is to return to more active learning styles. As a result, relationships between parents, teachers and students often grow as the class progresses. For, when all are invested into the success of a student, it can be easier to discuss a variety of school related issues such as those related to behavioral or learning should the need arise.

It is important that teachers contact administrators for approval before putting new lesson plans into place. For, while some schools and districts allow for these alternative forms of teaching, other districts and schools provide for a more structured learning experience. As such, to avoid conflict, it is often best to check with administrators before moving forward with an alternative aspect when it comes to teaching.

Teachers who have the freedom and ability to teach in new and interesting ways often have closer relationships with students. Whereas, when learning is fun, students are often more interested and engaged on a long-term basis. As such, it can often be beneficial to suggest these alternative and creative styles to administrators, even in schools and districts where more structured forms have always taken place in the past.
