Facts Concerning Hunting For Alligators

By Frank Stone

Hunting is the act that involves the capture and killing of wild animals and in other words the wildlife. The history of hunting did not just begin a few years back but dates way back to as almost where the humans started. Hunting as a source of livelihood was most sought by the people in that, it provided them with food and animal products e. G. Leather which is used to make sleeping and clothing material. It can be said that the activity has been a practice of the humans for a very long time. Here are facts on hunting for alligators.

Today, people still hunt, only that the activity is regulated in most countries and the methods used are more advanced. In western countries, especially in the United States, one needs a license in order to hunt any kind of wildlife and alligators are not excluded. Gator hunting is an activity that takes places mostly in the southeaster states of the United States.

The states have a high number of alligators that without controlling their population, they would pose a serious threat to human safety. Some of thee states include Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Georgia, and Arkansas. In these states, the state governments issue people with permits to hunt the reptiles. The hunting window is usually open for about a month before it closes.

Of all the southeaster states, North Carolina is the only state that prohibits the killing of alligators. In this state, it is illegal for anyone who is not an employee of the wildlife service to kill or hunt gators. The reptile is considered a protected species. When one comes across these animals they are required by law to inform the appropriate authorities so that they can take care of the problem. One may be fined or jailed if they hunt gators.

Certain requirements must be met before one is issued with a license. One such requirement is filling an application form requesting for a license. Information required on the form includes social security number, date of birth, and name among other personal details. Normally, applications are accompanied by relevant application fee. The fee differs from state to state.

When one is issued the license, there are specifications to be followed. These are the area range whereby one supposed to do the hunting, the limit of gators that are supposed to be hunt and the date to stop the exercise. The end of the exercise comes with the expiry of the license. Any person that is found disobeying the law will pay fine or some other measures.

As had been stated above, the increasing population of the gators causes a security threat to the humans thereby causing conflict. This can be supported by the fact that alligators lays many eggs during every season and this multiplies their generations. This provides a situation whereby alligators go into the human space leading to conflict. Alligators are therefore termed as dangerous animals.

It is the healthy number of gators that have led to the annual hunting culture in this region. Besides that, people hunt the reptiles for their skin, which is used to make a large number of products. Such products include shoes, bags, watch handles, hats, and jackets among others.
